Atkins is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. After successfully working with their London team for their move to the Nova building, we were delighted to partner with Atkins once again on their office expansion within the prominent Exchange building in Manchester. With the second floor already occupied by Atkins, the Exchange building was the perfect solution for accommodating Atkins' growing team. The expansion and refurbishment aimed to adapt a more modern aesthetic while remaining aligned with the company's design guidelines.
The project began with a CAT B fit out on the unoccupied third floor, incorporating a new joinery enhanced entrance, break-out timber features, and modernised toilets. By structuring the programme in this way, it enabled minimal downtime with their outside and existing team moving into the third floor while we began works on the second floor.
The second floor refurbishment encompassed a reconfigured spacious reception area, a new wheelchair accessible tea point, breakout area with timber joinery features, and a welfare room facility converted from an existing storeroom. Special feature lights were installed to highlight collaboration areas, complementing the third floor's design.
Both floors were designed as open-plan spaces, fostering collaboration among teams. Acoustic panels were thoughtfully integrated throughout the collaboration areas, minimising sound, and creating semi-private workspaces for individual or team tasks. The project exemplified the seamless integration of Atkins' vision, aligning the workspace with the company's ethos and values. The refurbished space provided a modern, efficient, and collaborative environment for Atkins' growing team, promoting teamwork and productivity.
